Introduction

Welcome to the 2025 International Conference for Healthy Aging and Mental Wellbeing

We are pleased to welcome you to the 2025 International Conference for Healthy Aging and Mental Wellbeing, to be held on November 22–23 at the International Conference Hall, Zhunan Campus of the National Health Research Institutes (NHRI), Miaoli, Taiwan.

The Urgency of Mental Health in an Aging World

As populations across the globe continue to age, mental health and psychological wellbeing have become central to the concept of healthy aging. Depression, dementia, loneliness, and suicide are increasingly prevalent among older adults and are often underdiagnosed and undertreated. Mental wellbeing not only preserves quality of life but also plays a critical role in maintaining physical health, cognitive function, social connectedness, and independence in later life.

Addressing these challenges requires a comprehensive, life-course approach—one that integrates advances in neuroscience, attention to social determinants, supportive policy, and accessible community-based care. Promoting mental health in older adults is therefore both a clinical and societal responsibility, vital to building resilient, inclusive, and sustainable aging societies.

NHRI’s Commitment to Aging Research

To lead national efforts in healthy aging, the National Health Research Institutes (NHRI) established the National Center for Geriatrics and Welfare Research, which serves as a hub for interdisciplinary research and policy development. Each year, this center organizes international conferences on critical topics related to aging. These gatherings foster global knowledge exchange and interdisciplinary dialogue among researchers, clinicians, and policymakers.

Focus of the 2025 Conference

This year’s conference places a special emphasis on the mental wellbeing of older adults, exploring its profound impact on health systems, communities, and individuals. Key themes include:

  • Strategy of Aging to Foster Mental Wellbeing
  • Neuroscience of Aging: From Brain Function to Cognitive Resilience
  • Healthy Aging and Psychological Wellbeing – Insights from Asian Populations
  • Suicide Prevention Among Older Adults

Distinguished experts from Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, and the United States will present their latest research, policy innovations, and clinical practices. Sessions will also address occupational and social determinants of mental health, dementia care advancements, and cross-national experiences in long-term care and community-based mental health services.

By bringing together global leaders across disciplines, this conference offers a rare opportunity to engage with pioneering research, innovative models of care, and collaborative approaches to aging challenges. Whether you are a researcher seeking new partnerships, a clinician looking to enhance care delivery, or a policymaker exploring sustainable aging solutions, this event provides a rich platform for learning and exchange.

Join Us

We warmly invite researchers, clinicians, public health professionals, and policy leaders to join us in advancing the science and practice of mental health in aging. Together, we can help create a more supportive, engaged, and resilient future for older populations.

We look forward to welcoming you to Miaoli, Taiwan this November!
